Last Updated: October 19, 2025

TL;DR: Your privacy is 100% protected. NeuroOS does not collect, transmit, or share any of your data. Everything stays on your device, period.

1. Overview

NeuroOS ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how NeuroOS handles data when you use our browser extension.

Core Principle: NeuroOS operates on a zero data collection model. All information stays on your local device and is never transmitted to external servers.

2. Data We DO NOT Collect

NeuroOS does not collect, store, transmit, or share any of the following:

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

NeuroOS stores the following data locally on your device only using Chrome's local storage API. This data never leaves your device:

3.1 Focus Session Data

3.2 User Preferences

3.3 Productivity Statistics

Important: All this data is stored using chrome.storage.local, which means it exists only on your device and is automatically deleted when you uninstall the extension.

4. How We Use Stored Data

The locally stored data is used exclusively for the following purposes:

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not share any data with third parties. Period.

NeuroOS operates entirely offline with respect to data storage. There are no network requests made to transmit user data.

6. Permissions Explained

NeuroOS requests the following browser permissions. Here's exactly why we need each one:

6.1 Storage Permission

To save your settings, focus sessions, and statistics locally on your device.

6.2 Tabs Permission

To detect when you switch to blocked websites during focus sessions and to open the analytics dashboard.

6.3 Alarms Permission

To schedule timers for focus sessions and break periods that work reliably even if the extension restarts.

6.4 Notifications Permission

To alert you when focus sessions start, end, or when break time begins.

6.5 DeclarativeNetRequest Permission

To block access to distracting websites during active focus sessions by redirecting them to a reminder page.

6.6 Host Permissions (All URLs)

To inject content scripts for visual noise reduction features and to allow site blocking rules to work on any website you choose to block.

Note: These permissions enable core functionality but do not grant us access to browse or collect your data. All processing happens locally on your device.

7. Data Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

8. Data Retention and Deletion

You are in full control of your data:

9. Children's Privacy

NeuroOS does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we don't collect any data at all, the extension is safe for users of all ages.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. If we make significant changes to our data practices, we will notify users through the Chrome Web Store listing.

11. Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:

12. Open Source Transparency

NeuroOS is committed to transparency. You can review our source code to verify our privacy claims. All code is available for inspection, and we encourage security researchers to audit our extension.
